EXCLUSIVE: After their recent team-up on Sundance and SXSW horror thriller Under The Shadow, XYZ Films and London-based Wigwam Films have partnered in a new creative alliance. The plan is to produce two to three pictures a year going forward, developing a robust film and TV slate and providing a platform for existing and emerging talent. As part of the alliance, XYZ has acquired worldwide rights to several Wigwam projects which it will sell worldwide and also executive produce.
On the shared slate is an English-language adaptation of Under The Shadow, set during the Blitz of London, on which the original film’s helmer, Babak Anvari, will serve as an executive producer. Anvari is also prepping a new pic as director for the companies. The plot of which is being kept under wraps.
Further on deck for the two companies is Offbeat, a coming-of-age comedy about the high school trials and tribulations of a shy teenage boy who completely loses control of his body whenever he hears music. And, there’s a film adaption of Sports Interactive’s video game, Football Manager, in the works. The project will be developed by Wigwam with Football Manager showrunner Miles Jacobson as one of the exec producers. The franchise, which has sold over 25M copies, allows players to manage their own soccer club and has been recognized by real-life teams as a source for scouting.
XYZ and Wigwam recently wrapped production on Adam Randall’s iBoy starring Bill Milner and Maisie Williams.
